- Correlates and predictors of the spatiotemporal pattern of voter apathy in presidential elections were analyzed for all the states in Nigeria between 1999 and 2011, using data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The Moran Index (Local and Global), analysis of variance, and geographical weighted regression were used in understanding the spatiotemporal patterns and drivers of voter apathy. There were statistically significant temporal (F = 4.811, P ≤ .05) and spatial (F = 8.133 P ≤ .05) variations, and spatial dependency in voter apathy. Men’s population size, expenditures on number of higher institutions of learning, expenditures on household goods and education were main predictors of voter apathy. 1 results 1

- Elections are ways by which citizens select their representatives into various elective positions in the state. There are series of activities which citizens take part in; particularly pre-elections activities that facilitate this process of selection. Utilizing the survey method of data gathering, the paper examined the participation of citizens in elections in Nigeria. Using Benin .City as the study area, the research sampled the opinions of citizens regarding their involvement in the 2011 general elections. The study found that citizens' participation in the 2011 elections in Benin City was low. It revealed that political apathy exists among citizens in the political system as the citizens' level of participation in the elections, was restricted to voting alone. The paper also identified some factors that attract and repel citizens as it regards their roles in elections as well as the reasons for political apathy in the 2011 elections in Benin City. The study concludes that citizens' participation in the elections revolves largely around the spectator level. 1 results 1

- Purpose: This study aims at investigating how partisan alignment, geopolitical affiliation, issue-based orientation, monetary inducement, and behavioural persuasion influence voting behaviour among Nigerian youth aged 18–35 in a transitional democracy context. Methodology/approach: A descriptive survey design of correlational type was adopted, using a validated structured questionnaire (six sections; reliability range r = 0.85–0.91). A stratified sample of 1,500 registered youth voters was drawn across Ondo, Oyo, and Osun States. Data were analysed with SPSS version 25 using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression at a 0.05 significance level. Results/findings: Positive significant relationships were found with partisan alignment (r = .206), geopolitical affiliation (r = .253), and behavioural persuasion (r = –.128). The composite model was significant (Adj. R² = .110). Only partisan alignment (β = .187), geopolitical affiliation (β = .256), and behavioural persuasion (β = –.081) were significant predictors. Conclusion: Youth voting behaviour in Southwestern Nigeria is shaped predominantly by partisan alignment, geopolitical affiliation, and behavioural persuasion, with issue-based orientation and monetary inducement showing no significant direct effect. These findings highlight the enduring influence of identity and persuasion in transitional democracies, despite growing discourse on issue-based politics. Limitations: The study was limited to Southwestern Nigeria and relied solely on quantitative self-reported data. Contribution: Findings are useful for political science, youth studies, electoral education, and governance policy, offering insights for strategies to enhance democratic participation and electoral integrity in transitional democracies. 1 results 1
- The study examined the influence of psychological and demographic variables (age, ethnicity, sex, social class, media and self-esteem) on voting behaviour. 232 randomly selected participants (males and females) in Ibadan metropolis took part in the study. A questionnaire made up of 4 sections was used to collect information from the participants. A multiple regression revealed that of all the psycho-demographic variables only age and self-esteem independently predicted voting behaviour. Also, analysis of Variance showed an interaction effect of age and sex on voting behaviour (f ( I, 2 I 4) =7.26, P<.'05). Thus, it is recommended that appropriate authorities would provide a level playing ground for people of different age and sex to exercise their civic duties, also, mass mobilization aimed at voters being assertive in the election of their leaders should be embarked upon by both government and nongovernmental organizations in order to effect positive attitudinal change in the electorates. 1 results 1
- The study provides an incisive but preliminary investigation into the activities of the monetary policy committee of the central bank of Nigeria and the implications for monetary policy, using the standard deviation measure of volatility and the ordinary least square method. The findings show that the ‘internal’ members and majority of the ‘external’ members have different preferences as shown in the voting patterns. Also, there has been reduction in inflation, money and stock markets volatilities since the operations of the committee became more visible. Furthermore, there is no structural break in both the money and stock markets in the period when the central bank started releasing the personal statements and voting pattern of the committee members. The policy implication of these results is that the transparency with which the monetary policy committee has operated since 2011 has boosted policy credibility due to the reduction in markets volatility. Nevertheless, there is need for the individual committee members to be more visible to the public through different platforms as this will further improve the central bank’s communications strategy. 1 results 1
- This paper examines the menace of vote buying and electoral violence as recurring decimal in Nigeria’s political journey since it returned to democratic government in 1999. Nigeria has over the years witnessed incessant electoral violence which has claimed many lives and has badly affected the country’s nascent democratic experience. 1t is opined to have dented the image of the country among the comity of nations. At the beginning of the country’s democratic experience after many years of military Interregnum, Nigerians thought the civilian administration would be better as those elected or appointed as the case may be, were expected to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people who voted them into power. Existing studies on democratic governance in Nigeria have focused majorly on the historical, economic and the social effects of bad governance to the neglect of how vote buying and electoral violence could constitute a perennial clog in the wheel of progress in our efforts at sustaining our hard earned democracy. This paper therefore in clear terms makes effort to discuss the menace of vote buying and electoral violence, their consequences and how to ensure a free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria. 1 results 1
