- Ancient and modern scholars have discussed Alexander the Great’s prowess and intelligence even as a great leader and conqueror who stood out among his contemporaries. This paper is designed to examine Alexander’s strategy in the process of administering his conquered territories. The argument being put forth here is that, while being a conqueror of nations and people, Alexander adopted stratagems to run a successful empire. The adoption of cultural diffusion was one of the strategics. Another was adopting unification policies that aided his governance of his empire. Alexander did not stop at being a mere conqueror, but his desire to unite the world seemed stronger than conquests which appeared paramount. Being properly educated and learned, lie realized that the beauty and uniqueness of the culture of his subdued subjects in various territories were not to be discarded into the waste bin of history where it may be difficult or impossible to retrieve. These strategics arc pointers to efforts of an effectual leader as enduring and vibrant as Alexander, who desired the amalgamation and prosperity of his known world. Further studies may examine the sustainability of this cultural diffusion and his unification ideology among his Diadochi. 2 results 2

- Education is an important tool in achieving sustainable peace. Where there is no peace, chaos, destruction of lives and properties are inevitable, there will not be development therefore, stagnation and retrogression will be the likely outcomes. Knowledge is very essential to ensure peace and stability in any society. This can be achieved through the process of education. For a state or society to achieve sustainable peace, the quality and practice of its education becomes very essential. This paper examined the concepts of education and peace. It provides a philosophical insight into the various ways the process of education in Nigeria can be employed to achieve sustainable peace. The study reveals that curriculum, pedagogy and subject approaches are vital in inculcating social values and peace in the society. They are required if the potency and efforts of the process of education in strengthening and promoting peace will not be defeated. It concluded by stating that while proven and effective programmes and curriculum are in place in Nigeria's educational policy, educators have what it takes to demonstrate, impart and help learners to develop and reflect the culture of peace through classroom interactions. It finally suggested ways of promoting peace through education. This include creation of conducive atmosphere for learning, allocation of adequate funds for educational development, discouraging quota System, separating religion from secular education and provision of culturally relevant curriculum 2 results 2

- The prognostic significance of asymptomatic bacteriuria resides in the observation that the prevalence is, relatively, high in persons with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes mellitus and pregnancy. This prevalence might, even, be higher in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Hence, this study set out to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria among symptom free and newly enrolled HIV infected pregnant women attending PMTCT unit of Antiretroviral Clinic of University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria between 1st May and 30th September 2007. Information was obtained on the socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects, CD4 count and viral load. Microbial culture was carried out on aseptically collected urines from the patients. Statistical analysis was done with SPSS 12 package. There were 161 analyzable samples from the participants. The mean age and gestational age at presentation of participants was 30.49 ± 4.3 years and 27.3 ± 3.2 weeks, respectively with modal parity of 2. Twenty-five (15.5%) of the urine samples significantly grew bacteria. The CD4 cells were significantly lower and the viral loads significantly higher (250.52 vs. 355.57 cells/mm3; 88,731 vs. 55,384 copies/ml; p = <0.0000) for the urine culture positive patients. Eshcherichia coli were isolated in 48%, Proteus in 16.0%, Klebsiella in 8.0% and Staphylococcus aureus in 28.0% of the urine positive cultures. The study showed that the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria among PLWHAs is high. The microbial isolate from the urine samples were not different from those of HIV-negative patients. 2 results 2
