- "This research work investigated the modeling of Von Mises stress in LNG Spherical Carbon Steel Storage tank using assumed displacement Finite Element analysis based on shallow shell triangular elements. Using equations of elasticity, constant thickness carbon steel spherical storage tanks were subjected to different loading conditions. This paper stresses the need for proper definition of shallow element using sector angles to obtain the shallowness. The shallow spherical triangular element has five degrees of freedom at each of its corner node, which are the essential external degrees of freedom. The assumed displacement fields of these shallow triangular elements satisfied the exact requirement of rigid body modes of motion. The FORTRAN 90 programming language was used for the programme coding to solve finite element equations resulting from the model while Von Mises stresses distribution within the spherical storage tank shell subjected to different internal pressures were determined. The results showed that the use of non-shallow elements due to improper sector angles resulted in unreliable results while real shallow elements produced results that tallied with ASME Section VIII Div 1, Part UG values. - "This work investigated the distribution of Von Misses stress in LNG Spherical Carbon Steel Storage tanks. Using the Finite Element Method and equations of elasticity, constant thickness carbon steel spherical storage tanks of 40 in. dia. 70in. dia of 1 in. shell thickness were subjected to different loading conditions from 500 to 4000Psi in incremental of 500 Psi. Spherical triangular elements based on shallow shell formulation were used for the model. The element has five degrees of freedom at each corner node, which are the essential external degrees of freedom without the degree of freedom associated with the in-plane shell rotation. The displacement fields of the element satisfy the exact requirement of rigid body modes of motion. The FORTRAN 90 coding was developed to obtain maximum Von Misses stress distribution with the tank subjected to different internal pressure and wind loadings. The results were then compared with the yield stress of the material of the tank. Von Misses stress is used as yield criteria whether to change tank material or increase the shell material thickness if yield stress is higher than the Von-Misses Stress. Results showed Von Mises stresses for a 40 in dia. Spherical shell with 1 in shell thickness able to withstand internal pressure loading alone up to 3500 Psi after which the shell thickness will no longer be able to withstand the loading. The 70in. dia. Vessel could only withstand internal pressure loading up to 2000 Psi. Validation of Finite Element modeling was done using ASME Section VIII Div 1 standard. Modeled results were observed not to be significantly different from ASME values (P>0.05). External wind effects alone on small dia. vessels was seen to be constant for all sides of the pressure vessel. 1 results 1
- A hexagonal, double-walled, wooden silo of sides 1.2m, height 1.8m and of 7m3 capacity was designed. The walls and floor were taken as stressed skin panels. These were fabricated using Mansonia altissima for the ribs, while exterior grade structural plywood was used as sheathing. The silo was subjected to nondestructive testing in accordance with the British Standard Code of Practice CP: 112 and joints separation, consolidation movement of the foundation and floor deflection were periodically measured over a period of two weeks during which the structure was under load. At the end of the test period there was no measurable consolidation movement and the joints remained intact while the floor deflection was within permissible limit of ∆ ≤ L/180. Further testing and evaluation including subjecting the silo to loading for longer duration and taking measurements of stresses induced on the silo components are to be undertaken. 1 results 1

- All real physical structures behave dynamically when subjected to loads or displacements. This research paper, therefore, presents seismic response of field fabricated liquefied natural gas spherical storage vessels using finite element analysis. The seismic analysis procedure used represents a practical approach in quantifying the response of spherical storage vessel with its content when it is subjected to seismic loading. In the finite element method approach, six degrees of freedom per node is used for legs/column of the spherical storage tanks. Lumped mass procedure is employed to determine system mass matrix of the structure. Computer programme code is developed for the resulting matrix equation form finite element analysis of the structure using FORTRAN 90 programming language. The modeling of the seismic load utilizes the ground acceleration curve of a site. From the results of the modal analysis, the system is uncoupled thereby gives way to the application of Newmark’s method. Newmark’s method as one of the widely used time-step approach for the seismic response is applied. The developed programme coding is validated with analytical results (P > 0.5). It shows that the approach in this research work can be successfully used in determine the stability of large spherical storage vessels against seismic loadings when base acceleration spectral of the site are known. This approach gives better results than the static-force approach which gives conservative results. While the approach used in this research treats seismic loads as time event, static-force approach assumed that the full ground force due to seismic motion is applied instantaneously. 1 results 1

- Development of information system in forestry sector is crucial in order to manage resources in a sustainable manner. Spatial distribution of forest and wood-based industries is important for sustainability. However, geographic location and other information about the wood-based industries in Ekiti state, which can provide baseline information for investors in wood industry, are dearth. To proffer solution to this, information system was developed for wood-based industries in the State using geographic information system. This was done by taking the coordinates and photographs of all wood-based industries in the State. Types of equipment used for different wood conversion were assessed with the aim of determining their strength and capacity. The photographs and coordinates were loaded into ArcView GIS for analysis. The wood-based industries were represented on the State map using their coordinates while respective pictures were hotlinked appropriately. Various local governments in the State were represented with polygons of different sizes and wood industries were represented with points. The results obtained from the analysis were used to produce database in MS SQL server. The database created by Microsoft SQL server formed the data access (back end) of the software developed using C# Programming Language. Appropriate codes were written at the business logic layer for both the back and the front ends. The software was developed in an Interactive Development Environment (IDE) using visual studio. It was observed that most of the wood-based industries were concentrated at the southern part of the State where there were more forest reserves. Gbonyin Local Government has the highest number of wood industry (46) while Efon Local Government has none at all. Over 95% of the existing wood industry was functioning with 91% of them using CD6 machine. The software developed is user-friendly, facilitates efficient data storage and prompt information retrieval, adequate and has provision for regular updates. 1 results 1
- Distribution of various Colleges of Education in Nigeria was examined. The list of Colleges of Education in the country was obtained from National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and their respective coordinates were obtained. Satellite imagery of Ikere forest reserve was obtained from Google earth while the sketch map was obtained from Ekiti State Department of Forestry (ESDF). Photographs of some parts of the forest reserve were taken. A set of 50 questionnaire was administered by the old staff of the College of Education, Ikere – Ekiti. The coordinates of various Colleges of Education obtained were loaded into ArcGIS to represent their locations on the map of Nigeria. Federal Colleges were represented with points, state colleges were represented with asterisks while private colleges were represented with upward arrows. All the attribute data obtained for Ikere forest reserve were used to generate a digital map showing the extent of all the various land use within the forest ecosystem. Various forest types were represented with polygons of different shapes and colours. Roads of different types were represented with lines of different sizes. Photographs of some parts of the forest reserves were hotlinked to reveal the actual status on the land. Administered questionnaire was coded and analyzed appropriately. It was discovered that the Colleges of Education established by the State Government were more (56.63%) than those established by the Federal Government (26.51%) while the private ownership established the least Colleges of Education (16.87%) in the country. When the spatial distribution of Colleges of Education by geopolitical zones were examined, South-West recorded the highest number (21.69%), followed by North-East (20.48%), South South (15.66%), North Central (14.46%), in that order and the least was recorded in South-East (13.25%). Forest in its natural status in Ikere forest reserve have been reduced to mere farmland, degraded land and encroached plantation of Gmelina arborea and Tectona grandis, which was not the case before the inception of the College. Old staff of College of Education Ikere Ekiti was responsible for the level of depletion of the forest reserve. 1 results 1
