  1. An investigation into optimizing nuclear power plant outage durations by Obaray, Shaheed

    Published 2024
“…Optimization practices were investigated by accessing and reviewing a body of literature, followed by interviews with 12 nuclear outage maintenance specialists or experts from the USA and South Africa, with extensive experience to identify perspectives on trends and key information to answer the research questions. …”

  2. Modulating the expression and activity of the nuclear import protein, Karyopherin β1, in cancer cells by Carden, Sarah

    Published 2017
“…Co-expression of Ran, an important nuclear transport factor, binding partner and regulator of Kpnβ1, resulted in a further reduction in proliferation (greater than that of overexpression of either Kpnβ1 or Ran alone), suggesting that cells are particularly unable to handle an imbalance in the levels of Kpnβ1 and Ran. …”

  5. The protective role of tumour necrosis factor alpha in the heart by Meiring, James Justus

    Published 2018
“…To evaluate whether TNFα activation of the nuclear regulatory protein nuclear factor kappa B (NFₖ B) mediates this myocyte protection, the NFₖ B antagonists diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC 10mM) or sodium salicylate (SA 100μM) were co-administered with TNFα. …”

  6. An investigation towards a conjugate vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 19A by Trimmel, Astrid Joan

    Published 2018
“…Use of 1H, 13C and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments confirmed the structure of the 19F and 19A CPS repeating units and permitted determination of the extent of the cell wall polysaccharide contamination. …”

  7. Selective GSK3β inhibition mediates an Nrf2-independent anti-inflammatory microglial response by Yousef, Mohamed H

    Published 2022
“…Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3 (GSK3) is associated with the proinflammatory phenotype of microglia and has been shown to act in concert with Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB). . GSK3 is also a suppressor of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), the principal regulator of redox homeostasis. …”

  8. Transcriptional regulation of the human alpha 2(I) procollagen gene by Leaner, Virna Drucille

    Published 2018
“…These differences were due to changes in transcription of the α2(1) procollagen gene as shown by Northern blot analysis and nuclear runon transcription experiments . Analysis of DNA-protein interactions with the proximal α2(1) procollagen promoter showed the presence of at least two DNA-protein complexes (complexes I and III) in collagen producing cell lines, while cells where collagen synthesis did not occur contained a third DNA-protein complex (complex II). α2(1) procollagen gene expression was therefore shown to be associated with the presence of complexes I and III while repression of the gene was associated with the presence of complexes I and II and the partial or complete absence of complex III. …”
