- "This study investigated the effect of Critical Thinking Skill on Mathematics performance of senior secondary school students, Ibadan. This study adopted the pre-test post test control group quasiexperimental design with 2x2 factorial matrix. Two schools were selected randomly from two different local government area in Ibadan and sixty senior secondary school students were used for the study. The major instrument used for the study was Mathematics Performance Test. The data were analysed using Analysis of Covariance tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed a significant main effect of . treatment of Mathematics performance among participants. Also, Critical Thinking Skill was more effective than Control group. Furthermore, it was found that there was significant main effect of gender in enhancing Mathematics performance of students. At the end, intervention programme was found effective means of enhancing students' understanding of Mathematics concepts. It is therefore recommended that students should be encouraged through different intervention in learning mathematic and to reduce examination anxiety." 1 results 1

- A strong belief exists that Physical and Health Education (PHE) have the power to promote the development of behaviors, ethical decision-making skills, and a total curriculum for moral character development as well as providing a social environment to acquire personal and social values and behaviors contributing to good character and good citizenship. There is dearth of empirical research supporting that participation in PHE leads to character training. However, Creative PHE has immense power to shape consciousness, values, and beliefs of students that could be passed on to selected aspects of the dominant culture. This paper therefore discusses the formal and informal processes of character training among Secondary School Students in Nigeria. Character training is seen in two different ways which are moral and social values which include loyalty, sacrifice, good citizenship, dedication, healthful living and cleanliness, while moral values include honesty, fairness, fair play, justice, and responsibility. Social values, which are highly esteemed in our society, are about the real world and how society views the importance of social character. Social values are positive assets but must be tempered by moral values. Character training through PHE should be systematic and involve formal and informal processes. Creative PHE provided powerful contexts for the teaching and learning of good moral habits and for this to succeed, students need both thinking and reasoning programmes, role models, a supportive environment, and the strong moral/philosophical commitment of community members, parents, teachers, students and the media. 1 results 1
- A student’s abilitiy to read and understand written texts is one of the fundamental skills that enable students to succeed in his academics. However, far many students in Nigerian schools with learning disabilities reading comprehension is the major deficiency. This study, investigated the effectiveness of the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) in improving reading comprehension of secondary students with learning disabilities. The study employed a pre-test, post-test, control group, quasi-experimental research design. The design utilised a 2x2x2 factorial layout. Simple random sampling technique was used to select One Hundred (100) Junior Secondary Class 2 from two junior public schools. The presence of different levels (ranging from mild to severe) of learning disabilities was the major criterion far this selection. Screening was conducted with the Myklebust Rating Scale (r = 0.76). Participants in the experimental group were exposed to five weeks of reading comprehension training using the directed reading thinking activity strategy. The control group was not treated. Three null hypotheses were formulated, while data collected were analysed using t-test statistics. The results showed that participants exposed to the directed reading thinking activity strategy performed better than their counterparts in the control group. Thus, since the directed reading thinking activity strategy was found to be superior to the conventional method. 1 results 1

- Affirming that French Language is unavoidably important and indispensable in Nigeria is not an overstatement. Nigeria is a giant of Africa and in view of the roles she plays in the international politics in Africa, she needs French language more than any other essential resources one may think of. . This assertion is quiet sound because of the great number of Francophone countries that surround Nigeria and the diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the neighbouring French speaking countries. The decline in the study of French language in Nigeria has been a major concern to the stakeholders in the field of French language education. Many researchers in this field have made frantic efforts to unravel the misery behind the slow pace of development in the study of French in Nigeria. Ogike (2005) opines that the problem that has bedeviled the teaching of French language after the political independence is beyond the control of the Nigerian French teachers. These factors responsible for this decline are multifaceted. This paper discusses the concept of language teaching methodology as an excruciating phenomenon in the success in language learning. Methodology of language learning cannot be under estimated while discussing the issue of foreign language education. In addition, the paper discusses the learners learning strategies in foreign language learning situation. Finally, the concept of motivation towards language learning would be considered in the light of the teachers' motivational skills. 1 results 1
