- Type-2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) could be well managed if patients adhere strictly to treatment regimen. Adherence to treatment (ATT) is a major challenge among patients with T2DM partly because the disease requires lifelong management to prevent the onset of complications. Previous studies on ATT have not been linked with studies on Health Seeking Behaviours (HSBs). Consequently, a study on HSBs and factors influencing ATT of patients with T2DM will be useful for its effective management. This study was therefore designed to investigate HSBs and pattern of ATT among T2DM patients in Central Hospital Warri, Delta State. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 350 purposively selected patients with T2DM. A semi-structured questionnaire was interviewer administered to obtain information on respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics, HSBs, level of ATT, factors influencing ATT and suggestions on ways of improving ATT. A 14-point scale graded; poor (0-8) and good (>8) was used to measure HSBs. A 24-point scale graded; partial (0-13) and strict (>13) was used to measure ATT. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and logistic regression were used to analyse the data with level of significance set at 0.05. Mean age of respondents was 57.9 ± 9.8 years, 60.9% were females and 78.0% were married. More than 95.0% exhibited good HSBs and 58.0% adhered strictly to treatment. Analysis of the determinants of non-adherence to treatment showed that taking alternative traditional medicines (herbs) for treatment of the disease was the major contributing variable (OR = 2.5, 95% CI = 4.55-1.69). Factors that hindered adherence included difficulty in sticking to prescribed diets (69.1%) and the least was busy schedule of doctors to listen to patients’ complaints (0.3%). Respondents who were diagnosed with T2DM at mid-adulthood (40-49 years) did not significantly exhibit strict ATT (27.7%) more than those (15.4%) who were diagnosed at late-adulthood (50-59 years). Suggestions on ways of improving ATT included self discipline (46.9%) and encouragement from healthcare personnel (44.0%). Lack of awareness about the disease (42.6%) was a major challenge confronting patients with T2DM. One of the ways of overcoming the challenges of T2DM was creation of awareness as suggested by 39.1% of respondents. Respondents exhibited good health seeking behaviour but use of alternative medicine (herbs) remains a major challenge among patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. Health education on diabetic care with emphasis on adherence to treatment regimen, among other strategies, should be organised regularly for diabetic patients. 2 results 2

- " The study sought to investigate how pre school teachers and their pupils interact during instruction in numeracy lessons in Nigeria. The sample consisted of 2859 pupils from 72 pre-primary institutions/classrooms (selected through stratified random sampling to ensure adequate representation of private, public, urban and rural schools). The collection of data involved using two observational instruments (Classroom Interaction Sheet, CIS and Ten- Minute Interaction Instrument, TMI) to record interaction patterns in 72 lessons during the teaching of numeracy. Data analysis involved the use of frequency, percentages, chi-square and graphical illustrations. The result revealed that the major language of instruction was English language rather than the language of the pupils’ immediate community; the use of instructional time and direction of interaction tend to be sensitive to language of instruction; teacher-initiated interactions and whole class activities are associated more with the use of English as language of instruction while learner-initiated interactions and individual/small group activities are associated more with use of language of the pupils’ immediate community in instructional delivery; and the direction of communication was mainly from the teacher to the whole class. - "A large percentage of Nigerian educational institutions use manual and paperbased system for collecting, processing, and disseminating information. This approach results in inefficient utilization of resources, low productivity and stunted growth of the educational sector. In this study the in-house users-development approach has been used to develop a computer based Educational Information Management System (ElMS) for a typical University academic department. The existing work system and the underlying Information flow pattern in a department were critically studied. The associated information needs were identified and analyzed. A broad review of the literature on Information Technology (IT) solutions were carried out to identify possible solutions frame work. Graphical User Interface (GUI) software embedded in Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), Microsoft Access was developed using Visual Basic Net. The software was deployed and tested using data from the department of Industrial Engineering, University of Ibadan. The GUI, compatible with the regular Windows environment, was shown to be user friendly. The capability of the EIS compares very well with the imported EIS systems. " 1 results 1

- 188 patients referred for speech therapy at U.C.H. Ibadan were analysed for types of speech pathology. Having ascertained the Ear, Nose and Throat conditions of the patients and with no significant medical indications, patients were promptly refered or Speech/Language assessment and therapy. The incidence of Speech/Language impairment was found to be higher in children (0-10 years) while delayed speech was found to be more prevalent. The import of public education on forms., causes, prevention and correction of speech and language defects was suggested. 1 results 1
- A major concern of educational institutions, families and researchers is the reports from various sources that sizeable numbers of Nigerian adolescents have fragmented, confused, or poorly structured sense of identity which may render them susceptible to external events. Adolescents' sense of identity is therefore, largely unexplored research domain that could benefit from greater attention. This study utilized correlational survey design to examine the pattern of relationship between self-efficacy, parental supports, peer influence, internet usage and sense of identity among adolescents. Two hundred and sixty students (Male=121; Female=139) between 15-18years (x=13.05; SD=14.2) were drawn from secondary schools in Nnewi, Anambra State using simple random sampling technique in four stages. Five standardized self-report questionnaires namely; Serafini and Adams Sense of Identity scale (r=0.78); Jerusalem and Schwarzer General Self Efficacy measure (r=0.76); Pasquali and Araujo Parental Perception Questionnaire (r=0.077); Steinberg and Monahan Resistance to Peer Influence scale (r=0.74) and Young Internet Addiction Test (r=0.79) were used for data collection. Pearson Product Moment correlation result show that while adolescent sense of identity has negative relationship with self-efficacy (r = -.441; p<.05) positive relationship exist with peer influence (r =.253; p<.05). There was no significant relationship with parental supports and internet usage on sense of identity. Multiple regressions analysis revealed that the independent variables contributed 21.0% of the variance in adolescents' sense of identity. Self-efficacy made the most potent (=-409; t (258) =-.6963; P<0.05) contribution in predicting sense of identity. The researcher concluded that for education to contribute significantly towards making the world safer there is urgent need to incorporate enhancement of self efficacy into educational and counselling interventions for in-school adolescents. 1 results 1
