| Summary: | This thesis investigates the myth of Syrian-Egyptian marriages and its effects in Egypt in 2013-2014. It explores the relationships between migration and marriage, public moral panics about jobs and men, and the everyday lived realities of refugee Syrian women in Egypt. The thesis investigates the media frenzy concerning the problem of Egyptian-Syrian marriages and it effects on the perceptions of Syrian women on the part of the Egyptian public. It traces the booming industry of marriage brokers on Facebook,as well as the critical engagements with this category on the part of the Syrian community, especially women. Finally, the thesis analyzes Syrian women’s livelihood strategies within but also beyond migration marriages. |
