Finance Degree School of Business College of Humanities and Social Sciences Department of Accounting and Finance The recapitalisation policy by Bank of Ghana has significant influence various stakeholders of the banking industry. Among the important questions asked is on how the minimum requirement has so far led to the profitability among banks. The key objective of this study is to examine the impact of recapitalisation on the profitability of listed banks in Ghana. The study limited itself to two profitability indicators which are ROE and NIM of eight (8) listed banks on the GSE. Using the published financial statements of the banks from the year 2013 to 2020 as relevant data, statistical analysis was done using STATA 13 Software. The findings from the test of equality of means and regression analysis for the profitability indicators shows that the means there is a major difference between the means of NIM for the pre and post recapitalisation era and reverse for the ROE. The shareholder’s equity to total assets which represents the capitalisation of banks has a negative and statistically insignificant relationship with ROE. There is a positive statistically significant relationship between recapitalisation and NIM for banks. As recommendations, Bank of Ghana could devise policies to help the banks to increase profitability and enhance their supervisory role. The government could provide the needed enabling economic environment to attract more investors may want to come in and borrow bigger loans from the banks. Banks who may not be able to meet the minimum requirements should look at merging. Also, banks could look at ways of increasing their profitability by diversifying their activities and providing more services that will attract more customers. 2025-01-28T13:40:43Z 2025-01-28T13:40:43Z 2021 Thesis https://ir.knust.edu.gh/handle/123456789/16096 en application/pdf knust
