BOATENG, LOUIS GYAMFI A Thesis Submitted To The Department Of Managerial Science In Partial Fulfilment Of The Requirements For The Degree Of Master Of Business Administration (Human Resource Management). In today‘s competitive business environment, the state of employment in the country is considerably important. In this 21st century, the unstable Ghanaian economy has increasingly resulted to increase in work demands which have encroached on family and other personal life activities at a faster pace. The aim of the employer is to increase shareholders wealth whiles employee also wants to work hard to achieve something for a living. That is the trend today businesses are heading to. Thus, the employer has therefore used the economic recession situation to achieve its shareholders wealth by increasingly set targets for its employees. For the employers to achieve this, they have now acknowledged the need of work life balance programs that will facilitate employee to maintain a healthy balance between the conflicting demands of their work and personal life. This study uses interviews and questionnaire to address work life balance and employee performance in six selected organizations in the Ashanti region. The main objective of the study was to analyze the effect of work-life balance policies on employee performance in the Ashanti region. Specifically the study sought to analyze as to what extend does work life balance affects employee‘s performance. 120 standardized questionnaires were administered to six institutions that provided data for analyzing two hypotheses set. From the regression analyses, it was found out that there is a positive relationship between work life balance policies and employee performance. It was further revealed that there is an association between work life balance and employee performance, with respect to gender of the respondents. From the interview, it was revealed that, the respondents have challenges to balance their work and personal life. It was also revealed by majority of the respondents that, the employer have policies and practice in place which have been added to the culture of the organization to assist employee to balance their work and personal life. It is therefore recommended that, the employer must communicate effectively any policies and practices on work life balance to its employees to have a fair idea on concept which will at the end benefit both employer and the employee. It is further recommended that, there should be fairness and consistency in how the employer implements work life balance policies and practice. Also, it is recommended that, the employer must consider the implications for work-life balance in relation to workloads and work outside conventional hours.
