Opoku-Agyemang, Perpetua Thesis Submitted In Partial Fulfillment Of The Requirements Of The Award Of Executive Masters In Business Administration (Strategic Management And Consulting). The contributions of both Local and International NGOs in to the national development cannot be underestimated. Monitoring and Evaluation systems are required from stakeholders to ensure accountability and transparency necessary to sustain donor interest and supports. However, NGOs in Ghana face challenges in adopting rigorous Monitoring and Evaluation Systems, such as lack of shared meanings of M&E. It is in the wake of these problems that has steers the interest of this study to examine the nature and extent of M&E adoption, evaluate the effectiveness of M&E adoption of NGOs performances in Ghana and explore the prospects and challenges of M&E adoptions among the selected NGOs (World Vision, CARE International. Student and Youth Travel Organisation (SYTO) and Youth for Change (YFC) in Ghana. The population for the study comprised of 40 respondents from the selected four non-governmental organizations implementing educational projects in Ashanti region. The researcher adopted the use of exploratory study. The study adopts the case study approach and qualitative method of data collection to measure the necessary variables to answer the research questions. Findings from the study indicate the concept of M&E systems is well known and understood in the organizations, however there is not much awareness of the importance to integrate the systems in all levels of the organization. The perception is still seen as M&E systems being donor driven for donor projects among the entire population of both local and international NGOs. One major challenge which is a cross cutting issue is that of inadequate resource capacity for an effective implementation of the systems. The research recommendsbuilding the capacity of personnel, equipping them with necessary tools, resources and creating cultural basis in the organization, is needed to make M&E effective and fully functional as to reap the real benefits of the system.
