spelling oai:open.uct.ac.za:11427/11455 Investigation of class 3 and class 4 (Doornspruit) homesteads in the North West Province, South Africa Kruger, Frans Jacobus Archaeology Includes abstract. Includes bibliographical references (p. 177-199). In this research I investigate Class 3 and Class 4 (Doornspruit) homesteads in the Bankeveld in order to establish their temporal and spatial distribution. Although the research area does fall within a cultural matrix historically dominated by Sotho/Tswana speakers, the cultural homogeneity portrayed in the oral texts is breaking down. Of direct relevance to this work is the argument put forth by Huffman that at least four movements of Nguni-speakers took place across the Vaal River from present-day KwaZulu-Natal during the Late Iron Age. These are broadly relevant to this research and specifically the most recent movement of Mzilikazi’s Khumalo. It is around this issue of Nguni identity and their homesteads that this research contributes. 2015-01-05T18:44:14Z 2015-01-05T18:44:14Z 2010 Master Thesis Masters MPhil http://hdl.handle.net/11427/11455 eng application/pdf Department of Archaeology Faculty of Science University of Cape Town
