Includes bibliographical references. In this dissertation, I propose a population-level framework that integrates ecology and population genetics to rethink the mechanisms that promote divergence. To accomplish that I studied two southern African endemic Cercotrichas scrub-robins: C. coryphaeus and C. signata.
