| description | The aim of this thesis is to analyse the role of regional organisations in conflict resolution and to what extent and with which legal authority are they allowed to participate in these resolutions taking into the consideration the norms of international law that is to say, the treaties and protocols relating to conflict resolution of the organisations shall also be focused upon. It will also determine if the role played by these organisations has led to increased peace and stability on the continent. This thesis will also deal with the influence that international non'state actors have on these organisations as well as the international norms that are to be respected and protected during conflict resolution. For this thesis, emphasis will be placed on the following regional organisations and the role they play in conflict resolution; these include: ECOWAS: Economic Community of West African States, EAC: East African Community, ECCAS: Economic Community for Central African States, COMESA: Common Market for East and Southern Africa, IGAD: Intergovernmental Authority on Development, SADC: Southern African Development Community. |
