This is a study of the dynamics of the dark solitons described by the parametrically driven nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We prove that both types of dark solitons (the Bloch and Néel walls) are stable throughout their existence regions, and that in the region of their coexistence, a family of Bloch-Néel bound states exists, which is parametrised by the inter-soliton separation. Using the Hirota method, we explicitly construct the family. 2014-07-31T08:11:14Z 2014-07-31T08:11:14Z 2004 Master Thesis Masters MSc http://hdl.handle.net/11427/4946 eng application/pdf Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Faculty of Science University of Cape Town
