Queuing and scheduling are packet processing functions which provide quality of service (QoS) at the first level of the QoS architecture where routers reside. With the continued increase in network speed, queuing and scheduling of traffic needs to be performed at higher speed. In addition, processing co-existing IP traffic from different applications requiring QoS may complicate these functions. Virtual Output Queuing (VOQ) is a strategy that can queue traffic at line rate and achieve 100% throughput with an effective scheduling algorith. It maintains a separate queue for each output port at each inputport. With N input ports and N output ports in the router ther are N² such virtual output queues at the input. The challenge is to schedule the packets at the head on these N² queues. 2014-07-31T10:53:18Z 2014-07-31T10:53:18Z 2006 Master Thesis Masters MSc http://hdl.handle.net/11427/5111 eng application/pdf Department of Electrical Engineering Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment University of Cape Town
