This thesis focuses on food security, policy and trade in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Food security is rigorously defined, and its ideological foundations are examined. Because food security is so intricately linked to poverty and rural development, a discussion of the food security situation renders a study of the socio-economic situation in the SADC region necessary.
