Previous studies revealed that socio-demographic factors affect the online information-seeking behaviour of students in general, and probably responsible for the shallow researches conducted by the students. Therefore, the study investigated the influence of socio-demographic factors on the online information-seeking behaviour of postgraduate students, using Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Nigeria as a case study. The study population comprised all postgraduate students pursuing Master’s degree programs in the Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, with a total of 1,185 students. The stratified, proportionate, random sampling technique was adopted with a sampling fraction of 22% to obtain a sample size of 260 students. The research instrument used for the study was the questionnaire, and data generated were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Results showed that online information-seeking by the students was dominated by the need to pass and excel in their studies, with ‘school assignment’ ( =1.72) and ‘project writing’ ( =1.63) being the major purposes for their information search, while the most frequently used tools are email ( =2.623), Google search ( =2.572) and Yahoo search ( =2.301). However, the greatest challenges encountered by the students in searching online are the ‘high cost of subscription’ ( =1.701) and ‘too much of information to download’ ( =1.612). The study concluded that gender, age, residence status, and course of study have positive influence on the online information seeking behaviour of the students but there is no significant relationship between marital status and this behaviour.
