There is the need to mitigate the effects of the recession in order to empower the children adequately to confront the challenges of sustainable development of the country. The paper examined global economic recession, elementary school children as well as the impact of the recession on health care and education of the children. Mitigation strategies are proffered. Prudent management of government resources as well as quality services delivery in government health and educational institutions were suggested as measures to ensure the effectiveness of the mitigation strategies proffered.
