Automotive original equipment manufacturers are undergoing a new era of distruption where recent shifts in OEM strategies challenge long-standing norms and beliefs. As a result, leaders must be equipped to navigate these uncertainties to articulate a new vision for the future. Despite the extensive body of literature, there is still a limited understanding on intellectual stimulation’s (as a dimension of transformational leadership) influence on extra-role behaviour, specifically in a transforming automotive industry setting. Therefore, this qualitative study aims to provide an integrated model that articulates the mechanisms through which intellectual stimulation influences extra-role behaviour in the context of disruptive change in the automotive OEM industry.
