This study examines the impact of Kenya’s COVID-19 response measures on the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls. Despite national and international commitments to uphold adolescents' SRHR, including Kenya’s Constitution and treaties such as CEDAW and the Maputo Protocol, the onset of the pandemic in 2020 exposed critical gaps in the protection of these rights. The government’s containment strategies, such as school closures and restricted access to healthcare, disproportionately affected adolescent girls by limiting access to comprehensive sexuality education, contraceptive services, and safe spaces. Using a human rights-based and feminist lens, the research analyzes these impacts and identifies ways to strengthen policy responses to ensure SRHR for adolescent girls during public health emergencies. Findings aim to inform more inclusive crisis planning that safeguards the rights and well-being of adolescent girls.
