Dissertation (MCom (Business Management))--University of Pretoria, 2018. In this study the flipped classroom as an undergraduate instruction method was explored. The undergraduate Business Management 124 class was flipped, where firstly learners had the opportunity to watch theoretical video clips, on a social media platform Google+, of the lectures at home or in University of Pretoria’s laboratories at own pace before attending a lecture. Secondly the learners attended the first lecture where difficult concepts and the theory from the video clips were discussed. Thirdly the learners watched video clips of applicable case studies and took part in group discussions in the third lecture, analysed the case study and applied the theory to the case study where after the outcomes were discussed in the bigger group. In the fourth and last contact class the learners were engaged in group activities where the theory was applied. The use of technology and interactive sessions changed traditional classrooms to spaces where active learning took place. Thus, the traditional classroom was flipped where the theory was done at home and the homework in class. Questionnaires on the perceptions of the leaners of the cloud-based flipped classroom were developed and uploaded on the Google+ platform for leaners to complete, where after the questionnaires were statistically analysed. In the literature review the traditional classroom, the millennials, active learning, the development and role of digital technology, learning management systems, social networking platforms, blended learning, the flipped classroom, role of the lecturer in the flipped classroom and the role of the learner in the flipped classroom were discussed as well as the managerial implications and limitations. This concludes that the cloud-based flipped classroom is the preferred instruction method for undergraduate Business Management students as it engaged the leaner in class discussions which lead to a higher pass rate.
