Net soos filosofie en kuns ‘n sekere vorming aan die mens gee, so bring geskiedenis sy besondere vorming. Om geskiedenis van die jeug te onthou, sou net beteken dat die uitkyk in die lewe vereng en 'n oppervlakkige oordeel meegebring word. By die behandeling van die doelstelling sal die noodsaaklikheid van geskiedenisonderrig duideliker navore kom.
