Patients with Cushing’s syndrome often complain about sleep disruption and excessive day time sleepiness, which could contribute to worsening quality of life and metabolic comorbidities (obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia) associated with hypercortisolism. Sleep disorders have been shown to increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and that the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with hypercortisolism may be worsened by impaired sleep. Cushing’s syndrome patients may also be at increased risk for obstructive sleep apnea due to their obesity. em2026 Physiology MSc Restricted SDG-03: Good health and well-being SDG-17: Partnerships for the goals 2020-11-18T09:05:50Z 2020-11-18T09:05:50Z 2021-04 2020 Dissertation Groenewald, L 2020, The prevalence of sleep apnea in patients with Cushing's syndrome, MSc Dissertation, University of Pretoria, Pretoria, viewed yymmdd <http://hdl.handle.net/2263/77081> A2021 http://hdl.handle.net/2263/77081 en © 2019 University of Pretoria.
