In hierdie navorsing word ondersoek ingestel na die rol van die skoolhoof ten opsigte van die handhawing van onderwyserwelstand. ’n Kwalitatiewe studie is by vier staatskole in Gauteng gedoen. Twee metodes is gebruik om data te versamel. Eerstens is ’n vraelys in die vorm van ’n narratiewe raamwerk opgestel en aan deelnemers gegee. Tweedens is onderhoude met die deelnemers gevoer wat semi-gestruktureerde vrae moes beantwoord. Deur die data te ontleed, te analiseer, volgens temas te klassifiseer en gevolgtrekkings te maak, is bevind dat die skoolhoof inderdaad ’n rol speel in die handhawing van onderwyserwelstand. Dit is egter nie die enigste faktor wat onderwyserwelstand beϊnvloed nie.
