This study examines the hurdles women encounter when seeking leadership positions within religious institutions. It highlights that despite changing cultural standards and increased recognition of the need for diversity and inclusiveness in religious leadership, women still face numerous barriers. The study takes an intersectional approach, recognizing that gender discrimination intersects with other factors such as race, ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status, leading to specific challenges for women from diverse backgrounds. The challenges explored in the study include doctrinal and theological interpretations that have historically supported patriarchal structures, societal norms, deeply ingrained biases, and institutional obstacles like limited access to leadership roles, disparities in compensation and recognition, and a lack of mentorship and support networks. These challenges vary in intensity depending on individual circumstances, creating a complex landscape of adversity. Furthermore, the study examines the psychological impact of these challenges, including burnout, self-doubt, and emotional fatigue, affecting both women in leadership and the communities they serve. The ultimate goal of the research is to raise awareness of these difficulties and encourage collaboration among religious organizations, academics, and activists to create more inclusive and equal environments for women in church leadership. This study contributes to the ongoing discussion about gender equality in religious institutions and emphasizes the importance of addressing the interconnected nature of these issues. It is part of a broader effort to shed light on the challenges faced by women in leadership roles across various industries and sectors, driven by deeply rooted cultural norms and systemic biased.
