This thesis, Relational leadership and trust in multi-actor groups, used a South African public institution with a history of trust impairment to explore relational leadership accomplishment in multi-actor groups constituted by CEOs, including the role trust played in such settings. Resonance and trust at interpersonal and interorganisational level emerged as key themes through which investigated groups achieved high quality relating and communicating. Consequently, resonance was hypothesised to unlock flows-of-influence which enable leadership manifestation. The thesis contributes to knowledge by identifying resonance as fundamental in the social construction of leadership, its novelty is in seamlessly integrating resonance, trust and relational leadership. Interpersonal and interorganisational trust emerged as forces that instigate and reinforce group relationships, rendering trust central to the social construction of leadership. Lastly, a resonance-enabled relational social constructionist leadership framework is proposed to advance leadership theory and practice of leadership.
