Bohmer, Reinhard Gustav Bepalings Verspreiding Spoorelemente Pretoria UCTD Thesis (DSc (Chemistry))--University of Pretoria, 1977. In collaboration with the late prof. J. Willemse of the Department of Geology, samples were taken from the cores of various prospecting boreholes, that had been drilled in different areas of Transvaal. The author's main objective in this thesis, was the development of analytical methods to determine the major and trace-elements accurately. This objective has been realised and the developed methods were applied to the analysis of the shales of the Pretoria Group. The results of the analysis were plotted on a few variation diagrams. No radical deviation from normal trends could be proved. The use of boron as an indicator of the paleosalinity could not be verified. This research project contributes to the methodology of geochemical analysis and shows how different instrumental techniques can be applied successfully. Afrikaans: Gedurende 1964-1966 het skrywer in samewerking met wyle prof. J. Willemse van die Departement Geologie, Universiteit van Pretoria, monsters versamel. Hierdie monsters was almal afkomstig van kerne van prospekteerboorgate, wat in verskillende dele van Transvaal geboor is. Skrywer het horn ten doel gestel om navorsingswerk te doen in verband met die daarstelling van. akkurate bepalingsmetodes vir die hoof- en spoorelemente van die skalies van die Groep Pretoria. In hierdie opsig was die ondersoek baie suksesvol. Die resultate van die analises van die skaliemonsters is deur verskeie variasiediagrarnme voorgestel. Geen radikale afwyking kon aangetoon word nie .. Die metode om boor as 'n indeks te gebruik om die soutinhoud van die oermeer aan te dui, was nie suksesvol nie. Hierdie navorsingswerk lewer 'n positiewe bydrae tot die metodiek van geochemiese analise en toon hoe verskillende instrumentele tegnieke gebruik kan word.
