Dept. of Music. UCTD Sound -- Recording and reproducing -- Digital techniques. Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2018. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Mastering is considered to be an important and necessary step in audio production. However the exact definition and role of mastering is uncertain. This study aimed at exploring the concept of mastering in search of a definition. It further aimed to determine if South African audio professionals understand what mastering is, what its subprocesses are and what it should achieve.
