ENGLISH SUMMARY : Objective: The researcher’s main objective is to explore the prevalence of workplace bullying of trainee doctors in the Western Cape, South Africa. The focus of this study is on the subjective perspectives of trainee doctors who identify themselves as victims and/or witnesses of workplace bullying. Participants: A total of 194 trainee doctors (3rd year students and higher) participated in this research study from medical faculties at two universities in the Western Cape, South Africa. Study method: A quantitative non-experimental ex post facto design was used for this research. Also, a non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to collect data. An invitation with the self-report questionnaire has been sent electronically to participants which include measuring instruments such as the Negative Acts Questionnaire (NAQ) and the Work Harassment Scale (WHS). Data was then analysed by means of descriptive statistics. Main finding: Although a high incidence of workplace bullying has not been reported in this study, the research results still indicate the occurrence of workplace bullying of trainee doctors in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Conclusions: This research created awareness, contributed to the body of knowledge, and provides a basis for future researchers to elaborate on and further this study. It is important to take into consideration that the study could not determine the causes and/or evidence for the occurrence of the prevalence of workplace bullying of trainee doctors in the Western Cape, South Africa. Recommendations to medical faculties and hospital management are discussed. Strengths and limitations of this study should also be taken into consideration when utilising the results of this study.
