Available: https://scholar.sun.ac.za/items/8bc374e6-1f8a-42eb-b74f-3d4bc2dd60e6 ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis identifies ways of implementing safe listening strategies into audio professionals’ lives. Noise-induced hearing loss is a common disease among these individuals. Their working and leisure listening environments contribute to their weekly sound dose, and these environments are known to cause potential hearing-health risks. This study argues for integrating adaptable hearing standards and implementing continuous monitoring systems in professional audio settings so that participants and management in these environments are aware of the possible hearing-health risks and can intervene if necessary. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie tesis identifiseer maniere om veilige luisterstrategie¨e vir klanktegnici te implementeer. Geraas-ge¨ınduseerde gehoorverlies kom algemeen voor on-der hierdie individue. Hulle werk- en ontspanningsluisteromgewings dra by tot hulle weeklikse klankdosis, en dit is bekend dat hierdie omgewings po-tensi¨ele gehoorgesondheidsrisiko’s veroorsaak. Hierdie studie argumenteer vir die integrasie van aanpasbare gehoorstandaarde en implementering van deurlo-pende moniteringstelsels in professionele klankproduksieomgewings sodat deel-nemers en bestuur in hierdie omgewings bewus is van die moontlike gehoor- gesondheidsrisiko’s en kan ingryp indien nodig.
