ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Sport codes, including those in schools, exemplify many of the gender stereotypes and have shown to be extremely resistant to considerable gender restructuring. Because it is a strength-based sport founded on the foundations of physical strength, powerlifting has mostly been perceived as a "masculine" sport. Sport provides a platform for women to reevaluate notions of femininity and masculinity, to challenge prejudices that label women as weak and inferior, and to demonstrate to their communities what they are capable of. Women's participation in strength-based sports, particularly powerlifting, has increased in recent years. Gender theory and queer bodies were used to focus my research on six to eight young women who attend a high school in the Northern Suburbs and participate in Powerlifting. This study took a qualitative method, using individual in-depth interviews and a focus group interview. The data collected was analysed using thematic analysis.
