AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In spesifiek die Suid-Afrikaanse ekumenies-gereformeerde konteks is daar tans geen praktykgerigte kurrikulum wat eksklusief op die opleiding van himnoloë fokus nie. Met die term ”homnoloog” bedoel ek ’n tersiêr opgeleide persoon wat wetenskaplik genoegsaam in sowel musiek as die teologie geskool is om in ’n snelle, steeds veranderende konteks te bedien. Webber (1994: 17) skryf daar is baie studente wat gradueer en kerkleiers word met die gemeente se aandag op die Skrif vestig, maar min kennis het oor hoe om ’n gemeente in aanbidding te lei. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: With special reference to the South African ecumenical-reformed context, there is currently no practice-oriented curriculum that focuses exclusively on the training of hymnologists. With the term ”hymnologist” I mean a tertiary-educated person who is scientifically sufficiently schooled in both music and theology to minister in a fast-paced, ever-changing context. Webber (1994:17) writes that there are many students who have graduated and became church leaders who draw the congregation’s attention to the Scriptures but possess little knowledge of how to lead a congregation in worship.
