ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Our disenchanted world coupled with questionable ideas of what constitute truth, love and rectitude did not leave the Church unscathed as doctrine has been marginalised and reckoned irrelevant for the Christian life. What is required is to move doctrine centre stage and once again embrace it as a road map for theological engagement. Against this backdrop, the thesis argues for doctrine and apologetics to belong together in order to link narrative, drama and relations in participative terms. As narrative apologetics connects the mind and heart it is proposed as a vehicle to draw people to the biblical metanarrative and invite them to step into the Theo-drama in order to become a refigured participant in a loving relationship with the Triune God, with self and others. A Scripturally ordered directive theory of doctrine is put forward and described as a canonical-linguistic model that drives theological engagement because it not only takes seriously the dramatic way in which the Triune God reveals himself, but it also preserves this propositional core and allows for experience gained through participation. A relational understanding of the Trinity is metaphorically explored as a divine dance that reflects the idea of co-inherence to mean mutuality, reciprocity or indwelling referred to as a movement of relations within a communion of love. This description of the inner life of the Trinity facilitates parallels of human relations to be drawn with relations in the Triune God stating it is like, not that it is. Both believers and unbelievers are encouraged to find their stories within the Triune-God’s grand story that can only become a reality through participation in the Theo-drama. A five-step narrative apologetic framework informed by a relational understanding of the Trinity in dramatic and participative terms is presented. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Ons ontnugterde wêreld tesame met twyfelagtige idees van wat waarheid, liefde en opregtheid is, het die Kerk nie ongedeerd gelaat nie, aangesien leerstellings gemarginaliseer en irrelevant vir die Christelike lewe gereken is. Wat nodig is, is om leerstellings na die middelpunt te skuif en dit weer as 'n padkaart vir teologiese betrokkenheid te aanvaar. Teen hierdie agtergrond argumenteer die proefskrif dat leerstelling en apologetiek bymekaar hoort ten einde storie, drama en verhoudings in deelnemende terme te verbind. Aangesien narratiewe apologetiek die verstand en hart verbind, word dit voorgestel as 'n middel om mense na die Bybelse metanarratief te trek en hulle uit te nooi om in die Theo-drama in te tree om 'n hervormde deelnemer te word in 'n liefdevolle verhouding met die Drie-enige God, met die self en ander. 'n Skriftuurlik geordende rigtinggewende leerteorie word voorgehou en beskryf as 'n kanoniek-linguistiese model wat teologiese betrokkenheid dryf omdat dit nie net die dramatiese wyse waarop die Drie-enige God homself openbaar ernstig opneem nie, maar dit bewaar ook hierdie proposisionele kern en maak voorsiening vir ervaring wat deur deelname opgedoen word. 'n Relasionele verstaan van die Drie-eenheid word metafories ondersoek as 'n goddelike dans wat die idee van mede-inherensie weerspieël wat wedersydsheid, wederkerigheid of inwoning meebring. Hierdie beweging van verhoudings binne 'n gemeenskap van liefde om die innerlike lewe van die Drie-eenheid te beskryf fasiliteer menslike verhoudings wat geparaliseer kan word met verhoudings in die Drie-enige God wat verklaar dat dit is soos, nie dat dit so is nie. Beide gelowiges en ongelowiges word aangemoedig om hulle verhale binne die Drie-enige God se grootse verhaal te vind wat slegs 'n werklikheid kan word deur deelname aan die Theo-drama. ‘n Vyf-stap narratiewe apologetiese raamwerk wat deur ‘n relasionele verstaan van die Drie-eenheid in dramatiese en deelnemende terme ingelig word, word voorgestel.
