Available: https://scholar.sun.ac.za/items/6518e04b-66be-4830-967f-205c852787f4 ENGLISH ABSTRACT:This dissertation proposes novel inference techniques for low-density paritycheck (LDPC) codes that exhibit enhanced accuracy and computational efficiency while also being capable of tracking non-stationary signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) in a wireless communication system. We explore alternative inference techniques from the probabilistic graphical model (PGM) literature and evaluate a different graphical representation of LDPC codes called cluster graphs. Our results reveal that cluster graph LDPC codes outperform the more commonly used factor graph LDPC codes in terms of accuracy, computation, and convergence speed, offering an achievable alternative to fully tree-structured graphical representations of LDPC codes. Expanding on the inference algorithm, we introduce a channel noise estimator and sequential Bayesian learning update method for tracking non-stationary SNRs over time. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on real-world 5G drive-test data that demonstrates the tracking capability of the algorithm and performance advantages achieved.
