ENGLISH SUMMARY: The employees of humanitarian organisations are often the first responders in catastrophic emergencies, carrying significant responsibilities which influence the lives of those in need worldwide. The need to understand the wellbeing of this population is vital to ensure that they can perform optimally and enhance the delivery of aid. This study explored the relationships between Calling, Character Strengths (specifically, those of Perseverance, Prudence, Hope, Self-Regulation, and Teamwork), and Overcommitment in Humanitarian Aid Workers using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The research contributes to the understanding of the relationships between individual Character Strengths and the work dysfunction of Overcommitment as well as the role of Character Strengths in moderating the relationship between Calling and Overcommitment. The results indicate that Prudence, Hope and Self-Regulation are positively related to Overcommitment, while Perseverance and Teamwork are not related to Overcommitment. None of the Character Strengths moderate the relationship between Calling and Overcommitment, and no significant relationship was identified between Calling and Overcommitment. Findings could prove useful to humanitarian organisations and organisations worldwide who model their policies on those of the United Nations, as well as the emerging field of research on humanitarian work psychology and positive psychology.
