This thesis explores the experiences of parents during this transition, focusing on the challenges they faced and the types of support they provided to facilitate their children's learning. Through a systematic literature review of 10 selected studies, this research examines the extent and nature of parental involvement in remote learning and its impact on academic outcomes. Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Systems Theory serves as the theoretical framework, offering a lens to understand how different environmental systems − from the home to the broader socio-economic context − shaped parental engagement and efficacy. The findings reveal that parental involvement was crucial in providing both instructional and emotional support, which played a key role in mitigating the negative effects of remote learning, such as reduced motivation and digital fatigue. However, challenges such as technological barriers, feelings of inadequacy, and socio-economic disparities often limited parents' ability to effectively support their children. The study highlights the need for better resources and strategies to empower parents, as well as a more collaborative approach between teachers and families to ensure a supportive learning environment during crises. This research contributes to the understanding of parental involvement in education during emergencies, and provides recommendations for teachers and policymakers to enhance parent-teacher partnerships in future crisis situations. Limitations of the review and areas for further research are also discussed, offering insights into the evolving landscape of education in a post-pandemic world.
