It is a ministry strategy operating under the banner of Campus Crusade for Christ, a parachurch church organisation operating in South Africa for over fifty years. There is a growing concern about the moral and character formation of youth in society. This research argues that the Life at the CrossRoads curriculum in a classroom setting can impact the lives of young people. It can play an important role in involving both parents and teachers in the moral and character formation of youth. The research question explored in this study asks: “How can character education alongside youth in secondary schools help with the moral and character formation of such youth?” Using the practical theology research methodology promoted by Osmer (2008), this research asks four questions: “What is going on? Why is it going on? What ought to be going on? And how might we respond?” In response to these I undertook to understand the effectiveness of ministry and ministry methods of Life at the CrossRoads in South Africa chapters 1-2); to investigate the current status of Life at the CrossRoads in South Africa, through exploring theoretical and conceptual frameworks (chapters 2-3); to explore the feedback from teachers through conducting an empirical study (chapter 4) and discovering a new narrative towards youth ministry models that enhance the character and moral formation of youth in schools (chapter 5).
