I am particularly drawn to their haunting and uncanny affects. These affects, or spectral entanglements, engage with the sense of absence and presence, of negative and positive space, of doubling and mirroring,of façades, time and temporalities, shadows and ghosts, loss and yearning, belonging and unbelonging, and traces and palimpsests that are evoked in my daily encounters with familiar and strange buildings. I navigate my perception of buildings through these spectral entanglements that I believe are enmeshed with, and inform, one another. My embodiment with buildings becomes intertwined and also lends itself to the narrative of these entanglements. My research is practice-based and autoethnographic, as I explore my own entanglement with these buildings in the form of this thesis and visual components of my art practice.
