In my studio, I observe and investigate fleeting moments in time punctuated by qualities of light and shadow, sound, encounters, and memory. Throughout this paper, I look at different interpretations and ways of framing the spaces that people and objects occupy, and how space can be experienced differently through human–animal and non–human–animal encounters. I explore my reflections on past and present experiences of re–imagined spaces that I have occupied – in fleeting moments in time through artistic methodologies and processes in my practical work. Locating re–imagined spaces through site–specificity and human–animal and non–human–animal relationships, I look at how Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir, Janet Solomon, and Gaston Bachelard interpret and reshape the spaces around them and how they re–imagine space and place. My research also includes personal encounters with non–human animals 'Spook' and 'Fellow' central to my artistic practice and pertinent to the human–animal and non–human–animal relationships I discuss in this paper. How these encounters shape my experiences within the spaces where I encounter them – my knowledge of the objects, subjects, and environments that have formed my lived experience – all influence my view re–imagined space. Throughout this paper, I discuss authors and artists relevant to my practice; artists who deal with related topics of human–animal relationships, re–imagining space through lens–based media, and how knowledge, experiences, and imagination shape the context of occupied, experienced and perceived space.
