Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses were applied to determine the concentrations of trace metals and specific POPs, respectively. The results were analysed, and the spatial and temporal data were displayed. It was then possible to identify pollution hotspots and their potential sources. There were no concerning levels of POPs detected; however, there were some elevated levels of trace metals detected at specific locations. Hoedjiesbaai was identified as the most polluted site, while North Bay was determined to be the most pristine site. There were significant concentrations of different trace elements at various locations, such as high levels of iron at Strandloper, arsenic at Bok River, molybdenum at Club Mykonos, and lead at Hoedjiesbaai. These findings suggest localised contamination influenced by site-specific factors, and targeted management actions are needed to protect the marine ecosystem in these locations.
