Nurses play a vital role in delivering educational support to patients with heart failure; however, they face challenges that influence the comprehensive offering of patient education, especially in multicultural settings such as Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to explore and describe nurses’ experiences in providing discharge education to patients with heart failure in a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia. The study objectives were to: • Explore nurses’ experiences of providing discharge education to heart failure patients in a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia. • Explore nurses’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities in providing discharge education to patients with heart failure. • Describe the barriers nurses encounter when providing discharge education to heart failure patients. Methods: A qualitative explorative-descriptive design was employed. The target population included registered nurses employed at a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia. A sample of n = 10 was drawn from a total population of N = 77, using purposive sampling. Data was obtained through individual interviews, using a semi-structured interview guide. A pilot interview was conducted using a semi-structured interview guide, based on the study's objectives. Findings from the pilot interview were incorporated into the primary research to prevent the loss of any valuable information. The data were analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2012) steps for thematic data analysis. The trustworthiness of the study was assured by adherence to Lincoln and Guba’s (1995) criteria of credibility, confirmability, transferability, and dependability. All ethical principles were met. Results: Five themes emerged from the data analysis: nursing practice and collaboration, patient care and education, family dynamics, and challenges to effective patient care and documentation practices. The study's findings indicated that nurses were dissatisfied with their work environment, particularly regarding staff shortages, a heavy workload, and time constraints. As a result, nurses were unable to provide adequate education to patients with heart failure before discharge. Cultural and religious beliefs significantly influenced patients' perceptions of illness, medication, diet, and their interactions with healthcare teams. Patients with low health literacy or those who do not speak English had difficulty understanding instructions. Despite various challenges, including staff shortages, language barriers, and cultural differences, nurses remain essential in delivering vital discharge education to patients with heart failure, thereby promoting self-care, and reducing the risk of readmission. Metodes: 'n Kwalitatiewe, verkennende, beskrywende ontwerp is gebruik. Alle etiese beginsels is nagekom.
