Available: https://scholar.sun.ac.za/items/0ae4cc59-1618-4212-bccb-c86dd23bfa80 This study evaluated the implementation of sport transformation within South African provincial cricket structures using the multidimensional Transformation Scorecard as a framework. Transformation remains a national imperative aimed at addressing historical inequalities, improving equitable access, and ensuring representative excellence in high- performance environments. Despite substantial policy development since 1994, concerns persist regarding the operationalisation and sustainability of transformation outcomes across provincial contexts. A qualitative research design was employed, comprising semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders involved in policy implementation and talent development. Thematic analysis guided by the six dimensions of the Transformation Scorecard—Access; Skill and Capacity Development; Demographic Profile; Performance; Contribution to Governmental Priorities; and Good Governance—was used to evaluate participants’ perspectives and their interpretations of progress toward transformation. Findings revealed notable advancement in broadening access and skill development initiatives, particularly through the Hub system and strengthened school–club pathways. However, persistent barriers were identified in converting representational gains into elite performance success due to resource disparities, coaching limitations, and limited competitive exposure. Governance emerged as a decisive determinant of implementation effectiveness, with cultural resistance and compliance-driven mindsets impeding meaningful structural reform. A cross-cutting theme highlighted the critical role of organisational leadership in prioritising transformation as a performance-enhancing strategy rather than an administrative obligation. The study concludes that, while the Transformation Scorecard is a valuable accountability instrument, its success depends on strengthened operational alignment, cultural buy-in, and sustained resource investment at the provincial level. Recommendations for enhancing talent pathways, improving governance capacity, and promoting transformation-driven performance cultures are presented. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on sport transformation and offer practical implications for refining policy and for future research.
