This form of activism raises awareness of topics that are not covered by traditional news outlets, such as newspapers, radio, and television. However, over the past decade, there has been an increasing use of social media platforms to raise awareness. Theoretically, I draw on Yanis Varoufakis’s work on “technofedualism” and employed thematic analysis to evaluate the data collected. Through this paper, I investigate how TikTok has been instrumental in raising awareness about the genocide in Palestine, demonstrating how social media can mobilise public opinion and influence global discussions. This was achieved by conducting three interviews with cyber activists and undertaking a qualitative content analysis of 147 TikTok posts over a four-month period. Overall, this research has demonstrated that participants did not have a full understanding of the case brought before the International Court of Justice; however, they still stood with the people of Palestine and continue to raise awareness about the alleged genocide. South African delegates initiated legal proceedings against Israel at the ICJ for their allegedly genocidal intent against the people of Gaza.
