The phytoestrogenic activity of Cyclopia, used to prepare honeybush tea, was evaluated and compared with that of the endogenous estrogen, 17-β-estradiol (E2) and the known phytoestrogen, genistein. Phytoestrogens are plant polyphenols much in demand in the nutraceutical market as they mediate an estrogenic effect through binding to estrogen receptor (ER) subtypes, ERα and ERβ. 2006-11-08T06:58:34Z 2010-06-01T08:43:10Z 2006-11-08T06:58:34Z 2010-06-01T08:43:10Z 2006-03 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/2198 en University of Stellenbosch 1931816 bytes 190561 bytes application/pdf application/pdf application/pdf application/pdf Stellenbosch : University of Stellenbosch
