The aim of this research is to determine the value of Ideology criticism as an interpretive strategy for reading an Ancient Near Eastern text. The study evaluates the theoretical as well as the practical implications of such a method. It starts off by determining a theoretical framework. It is found that the definition of the concept of ideology is paramount in defining the method. Therefore, the concept of ideology is researched pertaining to its origins and subsequent development. In this regard the focus is on two specific schools of thought, Marxism and the Sociology of Knowledge. These differing points of view represent the two basic presentations of the concept of ideology as a critical or a neural concept.
