Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Education. Dept. of Education Policy Studies. Community colleges -- South Africa Education, Higher -- South Africa -- Aims and objectives Dissertations -- Education Thesis (M. Ed.) -- University of Stellenbosch, 1995. A great deficit exists in South Africa for an alternative form of education. The community college concept is fast emerging as the solution to the problems of South African society. The main goal of community colleges is placed in a broad social and political context. What evolves, is a transformation process, a renaissance of the present education system. It will promote not only education, but an entire development of South African society within the existing democratic framework. This thesis explores ways and methodologies to maximise the transformative potential of the community college. This particular system will have an impact on people's lives, which will promote a healthy self-image.
