Dept. of Psychology. Behavior therapy Marital conflict Thought and thinking Dissertations -- Psychology Tesis (M.A.) -- Universiteit van Stellenbosch, 1997. To test the hypothesis that the major evaluative beliefs postulated by Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy are related to marital conflict, 15 married couples participated in a though-listing procedure. During this procedure, three idiosyncratic conflict scenes and three conflict-free control scenes were identified for and presented to each member of the dyad. The results showed that the conflict scenes elicited significantly more irrational evaluative beliefs and significantly less rational cognitions than the control scenes.
