Faculty of Engineering. Dept. of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. Fans (Machinery) Air flow Dissertations -- Mechanical engineering Axial flow Inlets Thesis (MEng)--Stellenbosch University, 1998. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the influence of a forced cross-flow component at inlet as an isolated system effect on the performance of rotor-only axial fans. The off-design condition is imposed by inserting inlet pipe sections - mounted at angles to produce ratios of 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 between the cross-flow and perpendicular on-flow velocity components - between the plenum chamber of a standardised test facility and fans of 1542 mm diameter. Three fans are investigated over a wide envelope of flow rates and blade angles. 2012-08-27T11:37:20Z 2012-08-27T11:37:20Z 1998 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/56020 en_ZA Stellenbosch University 272 pages : illustrations application/pdf Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University
