The multi-disciplinary facilities of the National Accelerator Centre are used intensively for nuclear physics experiments, radiotherapy and the production of radioisotopes. BEams of the required intensity, quality and stability have to be delivered efficiently to the different user groups. In order to improve these beam characteristics various sub-systems of the NAC facilities have been studied and improved. Not only have the intensity and quality of proton beams benefited from this work, bit it has also contributed significantly to improved reliability of the facilities and the repeatability of the beam properties and machine settings, as well as 7 times lower beam losses and activation in the cyclotrons and beamlines.
