Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Artificial satellites -- Computer simulation Artificial satellites -- Control systems -- Computer simulation Artificial satellites -- Attitude control systems -- Computer simulation Dissertations -- Electronic engineering Thesis (M. Ing.) -- University of Stellenbosch, 1994. The purpose of this thesis was the development and implementation of a satellite simulation using block diagrams. The primary objective was the simulation of attitude determination and control systems used by the satellite. These include attitude determination by magnetometer and by sun and horizon sensors in combination, as well as attitude control using magnetometers and reaction wheels. The block diagram was built in a modular way to allow for easy expansion. This was done to enable users to add other modules when examining different satellite functions. The simulation of the power used and produced on board the satellite is one example of this. The simulation was also written in a generalized way to accommodate any circular or elliptic satellite orbit around the earth.
